Chairman

David Atkins, JP. RIBA

David was born in Carlton, Notts. attending school at Nottingham Boys High School before architectural training at Nottingham School of Art (1948-53). He has been a trustee since 2004.

He married in 1954 and has three children and four granddaughters.

Vice-chairman

Peter Duncan

Born in Scotland and educated in Ayr, Edinburgh and Cambridge, Peter spent his career in the clothing industry.

After this and moving to Newark, he has pursued a range of interests including property, politics, and the wine trade. He developed a keen interest in the built environment through Newark Civic and Nottinghamshire Building Preservation Trust, both of which he briefly chaired. Contributing to the saving of the former Robin Hood Hotel in Newark from the wrecker’s ball is his most satisfying memory from those years.

Honorary Secretary and Technical Adviser

Alan Wahlers

Alan is a Chartered Architect, with over 35 years of experience in local government and private practice. Born in Liverpool, he moved to Nottinghamshire at an early age and went on to study at Sheffield University. Upon qualification, a period in local government as senior architect was followed by a spell in private practice before setting-up his own practice in 1987.

Alan joined the NBPT as a technical adviser in 1985 leading a number of successful projects since joining, including setting up the website in 2000 and more recently work on cataloguing the archives.

Honorary Treasurer

Jon Dawson, FCA BA

Jonathan is a chartered accountant with 40 years of experience in practice. He joined NBPT as Treasurer on 6 December 2016, bringing a lifetime interest in history and heritage.

Trustee

Roger Upton

Roger is a County and Borough Councillor for Radcliffe on Trent, and he is the Borough Cabinet Member for Planning and Housing. He is a retired Chartered Building Surveyor and spent his professional career working with the built environment in Portsmouth and London, completing his career as Head of Building Design, Maintenance and Procurement at Nottinghamshire County Council.

Roger has been a Chairman of Radcliffe on Trent Parish Council and successfully led their Neighbourhood Plan to adoption. He is a past member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors East Midlands Regional Board.
